I express myself through technology, using it as a brush to paint my ideas.
I am a new media artist, creative technologist and educator, working with critical concerns around technology, AI and tangible interfaces, for the last 12 years. Through my work I try to blur the boundaries between Art, Science & Technology to collectively imagine a future in which symbiotic relationships are formed between humans and machines. I developed my practice as a gesture of empowerment to navigate the challenges of living as a religious and sexual minority in India.
I work with multiple collaborators across the world, like the Be Fantastic community, Radhapriya, a Mumbai based cross disciplinary artist, The Rewire Music Festival in The Netherlands, doing art installations, and collaborative workshops on Creative Programming, AI algorithms, as much as poetry writing and storytelling.
Currently, I spend my time doing workshops on technology for artists to augment their art practice, and building AI powered tech-art for installations around the real and virtual world. I also a non-profit, Kalpana ("imagination" in Hindi), where he works with girls from low income communities in the deeply Patriarchal state of Rajasthan, nurturing their curious minds in a maker space, to become thinkers, innovators and change-makers in the field of technology, art and education.
Every project is an opportunity to learn, to figure out problems and challenges, to invent and reinvent. - David Rockwell
